Hi Kimmy, it's Tico. I just want to tell you how much I love and miss you. I'm so happy you're doing better, and I thank all the people that were there to support you. I will never forget those nights when you were younger, and you were in so much pain we could not sleep. During those times you weren't even able to speak yet, so you could not express the pain you were feeling. It was overwhelming, but I could not leave your side. Kimmy, although you may not know it, you have taught me that there are more important things in the world. I love you so much. To everyone that was involved thank you, thank you, thank you for saving my little cousin. Words cannot express my gratitude.

Kimmi, I am so proud of you! I was one of your nurses in Columbus, and now I live in California. You would share your jolly ranchers with me whenever I took care of you. I know you will be a great representative for all the children who need great health care! Congratulations and have fun in Washington!

Meghan Frantz

Hi Kimmi! This is Meghan. I hope you're having fun in D.C. Linda is with Akron Children's Hospital. She went with my family when we were in Washinton. The only time I was ever a patient in the hospital was when I was in 2nd grade. I had HSP. It's some strange rash I got on my legs and none of the doctors at the hospitals around where I live (my family lives about 40 minutes from Akron Children's) could figure out what I had. So finally we went to Akron Children's because my brother was a frequent patient there and none of the other doctors knew what to do but after we went up there everything got straightned out. Good luck on lobbying tomorrow. You'll love meeting all the senators. Hope you're having fun.

P.S.: Are you on football or basketball cheerleadering at your school?

Doesn't the Marriot have the best pool! I loved it and always swam as much as I could.

Kimmi's Story

  • Follow Kimmi Desir (shown with big sister Melissa) as she and 30 patient families from across the country visit Capitol Hill on June 19-20 to talk about the importance of child health legislation like Medicaid and SCHIP. Read more about Kimmi.

Write to Congress

  • Congress is about to reauthorize SCHIP. Write your Senator online and urge them to reauthorize SCHIP so eligible children can have health insurance and children's hospitals can better serve all children.
