Jaylynn is, in many ways, like any preschooler who sports pigtails, loves SpongeBob SquarePants and has the amazing ability to turn into a superhero. But her premature birth at just 25 weeks left her with extraordinary health challenges that Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron is helping her overcome.
Weighing a mere 1.7 pounds, Jaylynn spent nearly three months in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). She battled lung disorders and blood infections, and began suffering seizures. Doctors questioned whether Jaylynn, who also has cerebral palsy, would ever walk or talk. Weekly visits to the Akron Children’s NICU Follow-up Clinic put those questions to rest. Speech, occupational and physical therapy, as well as care from several of the hospital’s specialists, have this special girl taking time out from preschool to walk the halls of Congress and talk to legislators about why children’s hospitals are so important.
Leave a comment to cheer on Jaylynn as she travels to Washington, DC to champion children's health issues.
